Augusta

“Bracara Augusta” was the capital of the Roman province of “Gallaecia”. The Diocese was erected here in the early days of Christianity, where it found strong roots. In the first half of the 5th century, the Cathedral of Braga was elevated to the Metropolitan Cathedral, at the same time as the Cathedral of Lugo, with Braga having jurisdiction over the entire northwest of the Peninsula.
